Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked taking part in various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting really competitive in these card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lose most times. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and focus even more on poker.

The real advancement in his skills began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge one another. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
