Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
