Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard about.
