Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in nearly every poker game.

A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated initially, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing array of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several players shooting for the high, along with many shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
