Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
