No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
