Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
