Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
