Distracting Players

Do you ever acquire that itch? The itch to bet, to head to the nearest gambling house, to uncover a great stakes game of Hold em, to sit at a Twenty-one table for hours on end. I like that itch. And I really like to scratch it.

I also really like to watch men and women gamble. No two poker faces seem the same. When I bet I like to consider I put on a poker face which is impenetrable. Except I know I have specific mannerisms. For one, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I bet on poker or Black-jack. And then I smoke. But I smoke whether or not I am succeeding or losing, regardless of whether I have a great hand or bad.

I once bet in a very weekly poker game. The game was usually 5 card draw. There was a person who wagered with us every single week who often wore a hat. When he was dealt a great hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he by no means won.

The very best poker player I ever saw was a gentleman who made additional movements and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was flawless in the way he dressed. Often an pricey suit and tie, shoes shined and nails trimmed. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was often brushing his pant leg or holding his hands or stacking his chips in neat little piles.

I use to examine him for hours on end. I would attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Picking fuzz off his shirt- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a short pile – did this mean he had a great hand?

Years later I bumped into him within a bar in New York and we had a beverage. I asked him if he have been aware of all those actions he produced or if they were unconscious. He informed me that each individual thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is often checking out everybody else’s poker face. They’re attempting to notice the the tell.

So his method was to provide them lots to assume about. His reasoning was if they were pondering about him picking a piece of lint off his shirt and what it meant they certain were not thinking about their cards.

His process was distraction. And it worked for him. By no means give up a method that functions for you.
