Focus on Annie Duke

Annie Duke may not have captured her 1st WSOP Bracelet until ‘04 but she is one of the most powerful poker players around the live action matches at The Bellagio in Las Vegas. Annie’s long-overdue World Series of Poker bracelet came with a win at the "cast aside game" of Omaha hi low.

While competitors from the "younger crowd" of poker run wild after a huge win at the tournament, Annie goes home to be "mom" to her 4 kids. She was born in New Hampshire into a family of card competitors. If you don’t believe that, check out her brother, Howard Lederer, in action who educated her how to wager on the game.

However, Annie Duke is no small fry kind of girl and has captured her cut of hard tables, which includes knocking out Howard along the way on several occasions. They are both competitors that have the capability to acquire the huge bucks and do so with a grin.

Mrs. Duke is a tough competitor at any table due to the fact that she is a real poker player, but it is a bit more than simply being good at the game. Annie Duke is incredibly intelligent and graduated from Columbia U where she double majored in English and Psychology.

When you take a seat across from her at the table you’ll see Annie Duke is there to play the game and she starts "summing" you up from the time you approach the poker table. If you cannot wager like a Champion, then do not bother.

Acquiring over three million dollars in tournament play, Mrs. Duke branched out to become a consultant to both the UltimateBet poker room and actor Ben Affleck, who was looking to hone his skills and grow into a power at the tables.

You might catch a glimpse of her at the Bellagio, you will notice her on the television and you might even compete against her in a cyber poker match, but don’t expect an easy win. Unless you’re a champion-in-the-making, you’ll not defeat her. However, it’d be fun to mention you sat at the same table as "The Duke".
