Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
